Bernardt H. Hillebrand

Company D 22nd Infantry

Bernardt H. Hillebrand was born in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania in 1882.

When he died he was on his fourth enlistment in the Army, serving at least two of those enlistments
in the Field Artillery. Only his third enlistment record could be found and it indicated prior service
for him in the 3rd Field Artillery Regiment. He was discharged from the 3rd Field Artillery
on September 18, 1909.

He enlisted as a Private for a period of three years in the 5th Field Artillery on June 23, 1910
at Columbus Barracks, Ohio. His enlistment record indicated he stood 5 feet 6 ½ inches tall,
had light brown hair, brown eyes and a fair complexion. His previous occupation was listed
as Policeman. He was discharged from this enlistment on June 22, 1913 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma
with a character reference of Excellent.

The Returns of the 22nd Infantry recorded that he joined Company D 22nd Infantry from the
Recruit Depot in December 1913.

 

The Returns of the 22nd Infantry for the month of March 1914 carried the name of Private Hillebrand
under a heading of "Died" without indicating a date or cause of death.
