Donald Austin Gorges was born in Keene, Cheshire County, New Hampshire on July 29, 1922.
He was drafted into the Army on
November 3, 1943 at Manchester, New Hampshire. His home of
residence
was listed as Keene, Cheshire County, New Hampshire and his
civilian occupation was listed as Semiskilled
Chauffeurs And Drivers, Bus, Taxi, Truck, And Tractor. He had
completed one year of High School
and was single with no dependents at the time of his induction.
At the time of his death he was married.
His religion was listed as Protestant.
Private Gorges was killed in
action in France in the area between Gonneville and Montebourg,
during the attack against Cherbourg on June 25, 1944.

Donald A. Gorges was buried in
the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Sainte Mere-Eglise #1 at Carentan, France and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in New Hampshire on April 14, 1949.
