Matthew Ludwig Gorczyca was born in Lackawanna, Erie County, New York on January 28, 1919.
Prior to entering military
service he was employed by Bethlehem Steel Company
in Lackawanna, New York.
He was drafted into the Army on
September 27, 1943 at Buffalo, New York. His home of residence
was listed as Lackawanna, Erie County, New York and his civilian
occupation was
listed as Skilled Mechanics And Repairmen. He had completed two
years of college
and was single with dependents. His religion was listed as
Catholic.
He was assigned to Company A
from the 4th Infantry Division
replacement pool on June 25, 1944.
Private Gorczyca died of wounds
received in action in France during the fighting in the
hedgerow countryside of Normandy.

in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery
Sainte Mere-Eglise #2 at Carentan, France. His remains were
returned to the United States
in July 1948 and he was reinterred on July 9, 1948 at Lackawanna,
