James John Gonda was born in Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio on October 10, 1925.
He was drafted into the Army on
January 17, 1944. His home of residence was listed as
Cuyahoga County, Ohio and his civilian occupation was listed as
clerks, general industry. He had
completed three years of High School and was single with no
dependents. His religion was listed
as Protestant.
He was assigned to Company C from the 92nd Replacement Battalion on November 24, 1944.
Private Gonda was killed in
action in Germany, during the
Battle of the Hürtgen Forest, on December 2, 1944.

James J. Gonda was buried in the
temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Henri-Chapelle Cemetery, Eupen, Belgium and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in Ohio on December 9, 1947.
