Robert George Goebelbecker was born in Cuyahoga Falls, Summit County, Ohio on February 15, 1925.
Prior to entering military
service he was employed by the Acme Food Market
in Portage, Ohio.
He was drafted into the Army on
March 31, 1943 at Fort Hayes, Columbus, Ohio. His home of
residence
was listed as Portage County, Ohio, and his civilian occupation
was listed as Sales Clerk. He had completed
two years of High School, and was single with no dependents. His
religion was listed as Protestant.
He was assigned to Company A from the 41st Replacement Battalion on September 27, 1944.
Private Goebelbecker was killed
in action during the Battle of the Hürtgen Forest, Germany,
on November 25, 1944.
Robert G. Goebelbecker was
buried in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Henri-Chapelle Cemetery, Eupen, Belgium and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in Ohio.
