Henry R. Giffin

Henry R. Giffin was born in Pana, Christian County, Illinois in 1865.

He enlisted for a period of 5 years as a Private in Company D of the 22nd Infantry on February 5, 1889
at St. Louis, Missouri. His enlistment record indicated that he stood 5 feet 9 ¼ inches tall, had
light hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion. His previous occupation was listed as Farmer.

Private Giffin died on June 6, 1889 when he drowned in the Yellowstone River near Fort Keogh,
Montana Territory.

Henry R. Giffin was buried in the Post Cemetery at Fort Keogh.

In 1924 his remains were re-interred in the Custer Battlefield National Cemetery in Montana. ¹
