Edward J. Gaines was born in Massachusetts on June 20, 1919. He enlisted in the Army (A.U.S.)
on March 2, 1942 at Boston, Massachusetts. His home of residence was listed
as Middlesex County, Massachusetts and his civilian occupation was listed as
Clerks, General Office. He had completed four years of High School and was
single with no dependents. His religion was listed as Catholic.

He was assigned to Company B from the 92nd Replacement Battalion on November 24, 1944.

Private Gaines was killed in action in Germany during the Battle of the Hürtgen Forest
on November 28, 1944.

 

 

Edward J. Gaines was buried in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Henri-Chapelle Cemetery, Eupen, Belgium and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in Massachusetts.
