Michael John Frye was born in Tipler, Florence County, Wisconsin on April 1, 1923.
Prior to entering military service he was employed at the Pabst Brewery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
He was drafted into the Army on
January 2, 1943 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His home of residence
was listed as Forest County, Wisconsin and his civilian
occupation was listed as Unskilled Routemen.
He had completed four years of High School and was single with no
dependents. His religion was listed
as Protestant.
Frye was assigned as a Private
First Class to Company B 22nd Infantry on June 25, 1944.
He was one of 20 enlisted men assigned to the Company from the
4th Infantry Division replacement pool on that date.
Private First Class Frye was
killed in action in France, during Operation Cobra, the breakout
from Normandy
on August 2, 1944.
Michael J. Frye was buried in
the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery
La Cambe Cemetery, Isigny, France in Block BE Row 1 Grave 4 and
was moved to the permanent
cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, in the 1947-1949 time frame, when
the temporary cemeteries were shut down.
