James Joseph Fleming was born in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio on January 13, 1921.
Prior to entering military service he was employed by the Frigidaire Corporation in Dayton, Ohio.
He was drafted into the Army on
November 5, 1943 at Cincinnati, Ohio. His home of residence was
listed
as Montgomery County, Ohio and his civilian occupation was listed
as Machine Shop And
Related Occupations. He had completed three years of High School
and was married.
His religion was listed as Catholic.
He was assigned to Company B
from the 4th Infantry Division replacement pool
on July 13, 1944.
He was promoted to Private First Class on September 2, 1944.
Private First Class Fleming was
killed in action in Germany during the Battle of the Hürtgen
Forest
on November 27, 1944.
James J. Fleming was buried in
the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Henri-Chapelle Cemetery, Eupen, Belgium and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in Ohio.
