Henri Duhamel

Henri Duhamel was born in Lewiston, Androscoggin County, Maine in 1870.
He enlisted for a period of 5
years in Company E of the 11th Infantry on May 16, 1893 at
Chicago, Illinois.
His enlistment record indicated that he stood 5 feet 6 inches
tall, had light brown hair, brown eyes and a
ruddy complexion. His previous occupation was listed as Soldier.
He was discharged from this enlistment
on May 15, 1898 at a Camp near Mobile, Alabama with the title of
Artificer and a character reference
of Good. This enlistment record indicated that Duhamel was on his
second enlistment
and had been discharged from Company B Canadian Artillery on
April 19, 1893.
On May 16, 1898 Duhamel enlisted
in Troop G of the 2nd Cavalry at the Camp near Mobile, Alabama.
He served with his troop at Tampa, Florida working as logistical
troops, helping to load soldiers and
material aboard the transports bound for Cuba. He was discharged
from the 2nd Cavalry on January 23, 1899
at Huntsville, Alabama as a Private with a character reference of
Excellent.
On January 28, 1899 he enlisted
for a period of 3 years in Company F of the 21st Infantry at
Cincinnati, Ohio.
He saw service with the 21st Infantry in the Philippine
Insurrection from 1899 to 1902. He was discharged as a
Private on January 27, 1902 at Angel Island, California with a
character reference of Very Good.
On January 28, 1902 Duhamel
enlisted for a period of 3 years in Company L of the 4th Infantry
at the
Presidio of San Francisco, California. He served with the 4th
Infantry in Texas and returned to the
Philippines with them. While in the Philippines he attained the
position of Artificer. He was discharged from this
enlistment as a Private on January 30, 1905 at Angel island,
California with a character reference of Very Good.
On February 4, 1905 Duhamel
enlisted for a period of 3 years in Company E of the 2nd Infantry
at
San Francisco. He served with the 2nd Infantry in the United
States and was transferred to Company L
29th Infantry on February 6, 1906 at Fort Logan, Colorado. He was
discharged from the 29th Infantry
with the title of Artificer on July 15, 1907 at Fort Douglas,
Utah with a character reference of Excellent.
He enlisted for a period of 3
years in Company B of the 9th Infantry on August 7, 1907 at Fort
Douglas, Utah.
He was discharged from this enlistment as a Private on August 17,
1910
at Fort McDowell, California with a character reference of
Excellent.
Duhamel enlisted for a period of
3 years in Company C of the 22nd Infantry on September 3, 1910
at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. This enlistment record indicated he
was on his seventh enlistment.
He was assigned to and joined Company C as a Private at Fort Sam
Houston, Texas on October 9, 1910.
Sometime later he attained the position of Artificer.
Artificer Duhamel died at Field
Hospital #3 at Texas City, Texas on April 24, 1913
while on active duty with Company C 22nd Infantry.
No record of cause of death for him could be found.
Henri Duhamel had served 20
years in the United States Army
with what appeared to be prior service in the Canadian Army.
