William Roger Deal was born in North Carolina on November 30, 1923. He enlisted in the Regular Army
on January 11, 1941 at Fort McPherson, Georgia. His home of residence was listed as Franklin,
Macon County, North Carolina and his civilian occupation was listed as Farm Hands, General Farms.
He had completed one year of High School and was single with no dependents.
His religion was listed as Protestant.

He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal in Headquarters 22nd Infantry Motorized General Orders No. 5,
dated June 8, 1943 at Fort Dix, New Jersey.

Staff Sergeant Deal was killed in action in France on June 14, 1944, during
1st Battalion's attack against the Quineville ridge.

William R. Deal was buried in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Sainte Mere-Eglise #1 at Carentan, France and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in North Carolina.
