Calvin R. Darnall was born in Wilkes County, North Carolina in 1867.

He enlisted for a period of 5 years as a Private in Company B of the 22nd Infantry on July 28, 1891
at Winston, North Carolina. His enlistment record indicated that he stood 5 feet 11 ½ inches tall,
had light brown hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion. His previous occupation was listed as Carpenter.

In the records of the 22nd Infantry his last name was spelled Darnell.

Private Darnall died at Fort Keogh, Montana at 6:30 a.m. on May 6, 1892.

His cause of death was recorded in his enlistment record as "Pistol Shot Wound."
In the Returns of the 22nd Infantry for the month of May 1892 his cause of death
was indicated as "From effects of pistol shot wound." In the Record of Death and
Interment at Fort Keogh his cause of death was recorded as "Gunshot wound
penetrating abdomen."

No further details could be found.

 

Calvin R. Darnall was buried in the Post Cemetery at Fort Keogh in Section A Grave # 24.

Some time later his remains were re-interred in the Custer Battlefield National Cemetery in Montana.
