Willie Day Creech was born in Coffee Springs, Geneva County, Alabama on March 26, 1909.
He was drafted into the Army on
November 7, 1942 at Fort McClellan, Alabama. His home of
residence
was listed as Geneva County, Alabama and his civilian occupation
was listed as general farmers.
He had completed grammar school and was married. His religion was
listed as Protestant.
He was assigned to Company B
22nd Infantry from the 4th Infantry Division Replacement Pool
on April 12, 1944.
Private First Class Creech was
killed in action in Germany on February 10, 1945, during the
battle
for the city of Prüm.
He was awarded the Bronze Star
Medal in 4th Infantry Division Headquarters General Order # 89
dated December 6, 1944.
Willie D. Creech was buried in
the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Hamm Cemetery, Hamm, Luxembourg and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in Alabama.
