John Franklin Cougnet was born in Baltimore, Maryland on January 5, 1919.

Prior to entering military service he was employed by Becker's Pretzels Inc.
in Baltimore.

He was drafted into the Army on May 4, 1944 at Fort George G Meade, Maryland. His home of residence
was listed as Baltimore, Maryland and his civilian occupation was listed as Semiskilled Chauffeurs And Drivers,
Bus, Taxi, Truck, And Tractor. He had completed one year of High School and was married.
His religion was listed as Protestant.

He was assigned to Company B from the 92nd Replacement Battalion on November 25, 1944.

He was promoted to Private First Class on December 8, 1944.

Private First Class Cougnet was killed in action in Germany during the battle for the city of Prüm
on February 6, 1945.

John F. Cougnet was buried in the U.S. Military Cemetery, Hamm Cemetery,
Hamm, Luxembourg and his remains were later returned to the United States,
where he was interred in Maryland on April 27, 1949.
