Jesse Lee Cothron was born in Macon County, Tennessee on August 23, 1919.

He was drafted into the Army on May 28, 1941 at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. His home of residence
was listed as Lafayette, Tennessee and his civilian occupation was listed as Farm Hands, General Farms.
He had completed two years of High School and was single with no dependents.
His religion was listed as Protestant.

The date of his assignment to the 22nd Infantry is unknown but he was with the Regiment
at least by December 1942 as his name is listed in a Company roster on a menu for the
Christmas Dinner of Company A 22nd Infantry at Camp Gordon, Georgia in December 1942. *

He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal in Headquarters 22nd Infantry
General Orders No. 14 dated December 31, 1943 at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

 

Private Cothron was killed in action in France, during the attack against Cherbourg
on June 21, 1944.

Jesse L. Cothron was buried in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery Sainte Mere-Eglise #1
at Carentan, France, in Block O Row 6 Grave 119 and was moved to the permanent cemetery
at Colleville-sur-Mer, in the 1947-1949 time frame, when the temporary cemeteries were shut down.
