Fred D. Coleman was born in Georgia in 1918. He enlisted in the Regular Army for service
in Alaska on October 10, 1940 at Fort McClellan, Alabama. His home of residence was listed as
Polk County, Tennessee and his civilian occupation was listed as Farm Hands, General Farms.
He had completed grammar school and was single with no dependents. His religion was listed
as Protestant.

He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal in Headquarters 22nd Infantry Motorized General Orders No. 5,
dated June 8, 1943 at Fort Dix, New Jersey.

Coleman was promoted from Private to Sergeant on the battlefield in France on June 16, 1944.
He was promoted to Staff Sergeant on June 27, 1944.

 

Technical Sergeant Coleman was killed in action on the Belgian-German border
on October 7, 1944.

He was awarded the Silver Star Medal in 4th Division General Orders # 90
dated 16 December 1944.

Fred D. Coleman was originally buried in the temporary cemetery at Henri-Chapelle
in Block F Row 8 Grave 159, and was moved to the permanent cemetery at Henri-Chapelle,
in the 1947-1949 time frame, when the temporary cemeteries were shut down.
