Herman Cohen was born in Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware on September 20, 1918.
Prior to entering military service he was employed by Neisner Brothers in Wilmington, Delaware.
He was drafted into the Army on
February 20, 1941. His home of residence was listed as
Wilmington, Delaware
and his civilian occupation was listed as stock clerk. He had
completed three years of High School
and was single with no dependents. His religion was listed as
Hebrew.

He was awarded the Good Conduct
Medal in Headquarters 22nd Infantry Motorized General Orders No.
5,
dated June 8, 1943 at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
He was promoted from Private First Class to Sergeant on the battlefield in France, on June 30, 1944.
Sergeant Cohen was killed in
action in France
on July 9, 1944 in the vicinity of Neuville.
He was awarded the Bronze Star
Medal in 4th Division General Orders # 80
dated 29 October 1944.

Herman Cohen was buried in the
temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Sainte Mere-Eglise #2 at Carentan, France and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in Delaware.
