Richard Francis Carey was born in New York City on August 26, 1922.

Prior to entering military service he was employed by the Penns R.R. Company
in New York City.

He was drafted into the Army on December 4, 1942 at New York City, New York. His home of residence was
listed as New York City, New York and his civilian occupation was listed as Baggagemen, Transportation.
He had completed four years of High School and was single with dependents. His religion was listed as Catholic.

Private First Class Carey was killed in action in France during the attack toward Cherbourg
on June 21, 1944.

 

Richard F. Carey was buried in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Sainte Mere-Eglise #1 at Carentan, France and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in New York.
