Stephen Frank Byers was born in Bridgeport, Fairfield County, Connecticut on January 11, 1915.
Prior to entering military
service he owned and operated his own business,
Park City Roofing and Waterproofing, in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
He was drafted into the Army on
February 8, 1943 at Hartford Connecticut. His home of residence
was listed as Bridgeport, Fairfield County, Connecticut and his
civilian occupation was listed as
Managers And Officials. He had completed grammar school and was
separated
with dependents. His religion was listed as Catholic.
Private Byers was killed in
action in France in the vicinity of Gonneville,
during the attack toward Cherbourg. He was originally listed as
missing in
action and on August 11, 1944 his status was changed to killed in
action
with the date of June 22, 1944.
Stephen F. Byers was buried in
the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery
Sainte Mere-Eglise #2 at Carentan, France and some time later
his remains were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in Connecticut.
