Louis E. Befano was born in New
Jersey in 1922. He was drafted into the Army
on October 27, 1942 at Newark, New Jersey. His home of residence was listed
as East Orange, Essex County, New Jersey and his civilian occupation was listed
as Semiskilled occupations in manufacture of electrical machinery and accessories.
He had completed four years of High School and was single with dependents.
His religion was listed as Catholic.
Louis E. Befano was lightly
wounded in action on October 21, 1944 in an area around
Miescheid and Udenbreth, Germany.
Private First Class Befano was
killed in action in Germany during the Battle for Prüm
on February 10, 1945.
Louis E. Befano was buried in
the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Foy Cemetery, Bastogne, Belgium and some time later his remains
were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in New Jersey.
