George Herbert Barkley was born in New York on October 12, 1921.

He enlisted in the Regular Army for service in the Philippine Department on September 12, 1940 at Rochester, New York.
His home of residence was listed as Geneseo, Livingston County, New York. He had completed two years of
High School and at the time of induction was single with no dependents.
His religion was listed as Catholic.

Staff Sergeant Barkley was killed in action in Germany during the battle for the city of Prüm
on February 12, 1945.

George H. Barkley was buried in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Foy Cemetery, Bastogne, Belgium and in 1949 his remains
were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in New York.

George H. Barkley is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Geneseo, Livingston County, New York.
