William Howard Anderson was born in Hatchechubbee, Russell County, Alabama on April 3, 1917.
He was drafted into the Army on
January 21, 1942 at Fort McClellan, Alabama. His home of
residence was listed as
Hatchechubbee, Russell County, Alabama, and his civilian
occupation was listed as Sales Clerks. He had completed
four years of High School and was divorced with no dependents.
His religion was listed as Protestant.
He was assigned to Regimental
Headquarters Company 22nd Infantry as a 641 Lineman
from the 4th Signal Company 4th Infantry Division on August 28,
1944.
He was transferred from
Regimental Headquarters Company to Headquarters Company 1st
Battalion
on September 9, 1944.
He was promoted to Private First Class on September 16, 1944.
Private First Class Anderson was killed in action in Germany on April 17, 1945.
William H. Anderson was buried
in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery,
Saint Avold Cemetery, Metz, France and in 1948 his remains
were returned to the United States where he was
reinterred in Alabama.
