Gust Anderson was born in Uddevalla, Sweden in February 1862.

He enlisted for a period of 5 years as a Private in Company D of the 22nd Infantry on January 14, 1890
at Minneapolis, Minnesota. His enlistment record indicated that he stood 5 feet 10 inches tall, had light brown hair,
blue eyes and a ruddy complexion. His previous occupation was listed as Laborer. He was discharged from this
enlistment as a Sergeant on January 13, 1895 at Fort Keogh, Montana with a character reference of Excellent.

He participated in the final campaign of the Indian Wars, the Pine Ridge Campaign.

He re-enlisted as a Sergeant in Company D 22nd Infantry on January 14, 1895 at Fort Keogh. On this enlistment record
his previous occupation was listed as Soldier. He was discharged from this enlistment as a Sergeant on January 13, 1898
at Fort Crook, Nebraska with a character reference of Excellent.

Anderson re-enlisted as a Sergeant in Company D 22nd Infantry on January 14, 1898 at Fort Crook. On this enlistment record
his previous occupation was listed as Soldier. He was discharged from this enlistment as a Sergeant on January 13, 1901 at
San Isidro, Island of Luzon, Philippines with a character reference of Excellent.

He served with the 22nd Infantry in Cuba and went with the Regiment to the Philippines.

He re-enlisted as a Sergeant in Company D 22nd Infantry on January 14, 1901 at San Isidro. On this enlistment record
his previous occupation was listed as Soldier.

Sergeant Anderson died of chronic dysentery at San Isidro, Island of Luzon, Philippines on August 28, 1901.

He was buried in the military cemetery at San Isidro and later his remains were returned to the United States
where he was interred in San Francisco, California.
