Robert Allen was born in Limmerick, Ireland in 1848.

He enlisted for a period of 5 years as a Private in Company D of the 22nd Infantry on July 22, 1870
at Boston, Massachusetts. His enlistment record indicated that he stood 5 feet 6 ½ inches tall, had
brown hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion. His previous occupation was listed as Laborer.

Allen was assigned to the 22nd Infantry from the Headquarters Principal Depot
General Recruiting Service at Fort Columbus, New York Harbor on August 1, 1870.

He was assigned to Company D 22nd Infantry on August 11, 1870.

Private Allen died at Fort Randall, Dakota Territory on November 19, 1870.
His cause of death was recorded as retention of urine.

 

Robert Allen was buried in the Post Cemetery at Fort Randall in grave # 86.

He was re-interred at the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery in June 1893.
