David Prentice was killed in action during an engagement with hostile forces
at grid reference BR185725, approximately 23 kilometers northeast of Suoi Doi airfield.

The following was written in Vietnam, shortly after David Prentice was killed,
by SSG Richard Buenzle, a friend and fellow soldier from B Company, who knew him:

Fred writes:

Dave was in my squad and was a good friend.
He was KIA just four days after I left Vietnam (and the Army).
He was shot in the head by a sniper.
