My name is Rex Millspaugh and I was a medic with C Co. 1/22 4th Inf Div of which Mike was an infantry soldier.
We had been in the Ia Drang, running patrols on search and destroy during the months of Sep, Oct and Nov of 1967.
We had some down time and our company was sent to a place called the Oasis to provide security. One night,
while on listening post(LP) duty, someone on the perimeter had movement and illumination rounds were fired.
The sudden bright light caught Mike with his eyes closed and he told us that when the flare went off, he saw "THE END"
in black letters against the red background. Approximately one month later Mike died. I remember that we were jealous of him
because he knew all the words to "Stuck Inside of Mobile With the Memphis Blues Again" by Bob Dylan. A helluva guy
and I have visited him at Washington and the travelling wall. I salute you my brother !
