THE NEW ABU GHRAIB POLICE STATION

On September 1^st, the police force of Abu Ghraib opened a new police station
that houses the district headquarters, a regional substation, and the district detention facility.
The new complex is a significant improvement to the security forces infrastructure
and clearly allows the police to improve their abilities to adequately secure the local communities
and conduct effective policing operations. The facility was sponsored by the battalion
and built by contracting the work to the Iraqi people – the day-to-day construction supervision
was executed by an American engineering firm from Ohio. This is just one more example
of how we are working to rebuild the infrastructure ad to ensure the people of Iraq can sustain themselves
without direct support from the coalition.
