DoD Identifies Army Casualties
The
Department of Defense announced today the death of two Soldiers
who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
They died April 30 in Baghdad , Iraq , from wounds
suffered when their vehicle encountered an improvised explosive
device.
They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 22nd
Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry
Division, Fort Hood , Texas .
Killed were:
Cpt. Andrew. R. Pearson , 32, of Billings , Mont.
Spc. Ronald J. Tucker , 21, of Fountain, Colo.

MND-B, ISF find several weapons caches thanks to precision raids, Iraqi citizens

BAGHDAD
- Multi-National Division - Baghdad Soldiers, along with their
Iraqi Security Forces partners and Iraqi citizens,
confiscated multiple caches of improvised-explosive devices,
bomb-making materials,
and weapons across Baghdad May 1. At approximately 8:40 a.m.
in southern Baghdad,
Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st
Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division,
seized two Dragonov sniper rifles, an Explosively Formed
Penetrator IED,
and an MP-5 machine gun from the back of a vehicle.

FORWARD OPERATING BASE FALCON, Iraq - Multi-National Division -
Baghdad Soldiers killed five criminals, detained 24, found two
caches and two explosively formed penetrators
throughout a 24-hour period in the Rashid district of southern
Baghdad May 1. At approximately 8 p.m. May 1,
Iraqi policemen from 5th Brigade, 2nd National Police Division,
and Soldiers from 1-22 Infantry
Regiment,
1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, were
attacked by 10 criminals using small-arms and rocket-propelled
grenade fire
in the Aamel community during an operation to apprehend a key
criminal. The patrol requested attack aviation support.
An aerial weapons team fired a Hellfire missile and killed five
criminals.
The "Regulars" Soldiers detained
20 suspected terrorists and various equipment.
At
approximately 8 p.m. May 2, "Regulars"
Soldiers from Company E, 1-22nd Inf. Regt.,
seized roadside-bomb making materials in the Shurta neighborhood.

Multi-National Division - Baghdad PAO May 5, 2008
Soldiers
from 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st
Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division,
were attacked in southwestern Baghdad with small-arms fire at
approximately 11:30 p.m.
An AWT came to the Soldiers' assistance and fired a Hellfire
missile and 30 mm rounds at a building where the attack
originated.
Three criminals were killed, and the attack was halted.

Multi-National Division - Baghdad PAO May 8, 2008
Soldiers
from 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st
BCT, 4th Inf. Div., seized an AK-47, assorted knives,
and a satchel containing $15,000 and 2,450,000 Iraqi Dinar at
approximately 4:40 a.m. May 7 in the southwestern Baghdad
district of Rashid.
At
approximately 10:45 a.m. (May 7), Iraqi National Police, along
with Soldiers from the
Company D, 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st
Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division,
seized munitions found in an abandoned mosque while conducting a
patrol in east Rashid.
MND-B Soldiers secured the area as the Iraqi Police obtained
permission to enter the mosque.
The Iraqi Police entered the abandoned mosque and seized two
containers of home-made explosive,
a rocket-propelled grenade with launcher and a smoke grenade,
along with an Iraqi Army uniform.

BAGHDAD
Iraqi Security Forces and soldiers of the 1st Brigade
Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division,
Multi-National Division Baghdad captured terrorists and
seized multiple weapons and ordnance May 9
during clearing operations in the West Rashid district of
southern Baghdad.
At
2:15 p.m., Iraqi Army soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 43rd
Brigade, 11th Iraqi Army Division, seized an AK-47 rifle
with 152 rounds, an RPK machine gun with 250 rounds and 60 mortar
fuses.
MND-B soldiers from Company B, 4th Bn., 64th Armor Regiment
confiscated a rocket-propelled grenade,
a PKC machine gun with 600 rounds, a hand grenade, a 60 mm mortar
round and four homemade explosives in a house located in Risalah.
The munitions were taken to a nearby combat outpost for disposal
by an explosive ordnance disposal team.
Also, soldiers from the Company A, 1st Battalion, 22nd
Infantry Regiment, wounded a suspected terrorist
and detained two others after the group attacked soldiers with
small-arms fire at approximately 3:50 p.m.
The wounded suspect was turned over to Iraqi authorities.
At 4:15 p.m., the same patrol from Co. A, 1-22 Inf. Regt.,
seized an explosively formed projectile, two RPG launchers
and three RPG rounds in the Jihad neighborhood.
Iraqi Security Forces in the Rashid district of southern
Baghdad, along with Raider Brigade soldiers are keeping the
terrorists off balance
by uncovering these caches, disrupting the terrorists
networks and detaining them, said Maj. Dave Olson,
spokesman,
1st BCT, 4th Inf. Div., MND-B. The ISF continue to work
alongside the 1st BCT, providing security for the district
and its neighborhoods and preventing the terrorists and criminals
from conducting acts of violence against the citizens of Iraq.

Division,
detained a suspected criminal wanted for attacks against
Coalition forces and the killing of innocent Iraqi
citizens.
At approximately 12:11 a.m. May 11, Soldiers from Co. A,
1-22 Infantry Regiment, seized two rocket-propelled
grenades,
a hand grenade and a high-explosive anti-tank round while
conducting a combat patrol in the al-Amil neighborhood.

Multi-National Division - Baghdad soldiers conducted clearing
operations
that netted a weapons cache and seven detainees, suspected of

Baghdad Soldiers detained a suspected criminal
at approximately 2:30 a.m. May 15 in the Rashid district of
southern Baghdad. Soldiers from Company A, 1st
Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment,
1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division,
conducted a point-specific operation to detain a suspected
Special Groups criminal
wanted in connection with extra-judicial killings, improvised
explosive device attacks and weapons trafficking.
"The Soldiers of 1st BCT 'Raider Brigade' remain steadfast
in their efforts to bring these dangerous criminals to
justice,"

MND-B Soldiers seize weapons cache, detain suspected criminal

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Multi-National Division - Baghdad Soldiers
uncovered a weapons cache and detained one suspected criminal
in operations throughout Baghdad May 18. At approximately
12:10 p.m., Soldiers with the 1st Battalion, 22nd
Infantry Regiment,
1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, were
searching a power sub station in West Rashid
when they found a weapons cache consisting of two AK-47 assault
rifles, three AK-47 magazines, one Dragonov rifle,
one PKC rifle, three improvised explosive devices, two
initiators, 60 pounds of homemade explosives,
other bomb making materials, and one 60 mm mortar with fuse.

MND-B Soldiers locate cache in Bayaa community

FORWARD OPERATING BASE FALCON, Iraq - Multi-National Division -
Baghdad Soldiers discovered a weapons cache
May 20 at approximately 5 a.m. in the Bayaa community of southern
Baghdad. Soldiers from Company A, 1st Battalion,
22nd Infantry Regiment,
1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division found the
cache inside an abandoned house while conducting a combat patrol
of several key areas in the community. Inside they found 41
60 mm mortar rounds, nine explosively formed penetrator back
plates,
approximately 2,800 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one bag of
handcuffs, a box of military style uniforms, three video tapes,
a partially assembled EFP, four sets of body armor, four
electrical timers and two command wire actuators.
"The more munitions and improvised explosive device
materials we find in caches such as this deters future attacks
on Coalition and Iraqi Security Forces," said Maj. Dave
Olson, 1st BCT Spokesman, 4th Inf. Div., MND-B.
"'Raider' Brigade Soldiers continue to maintain a steady
presence in the muhallas, towns, and communities within the
Rashid district
to make it a safe and secure environment for its people."

multiple munitions caches in southern Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraqi Security Forces and Multi-National Division
- Baghdad Soldiers seized multiple munitions caches
in southern Baghdad May 23. Soldiers from Company A,
1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade
Combat Team,
4th Infantry Division, discovered a munitions cache at
approximately 3:30 a.m. May 23 in the Rashid district of southern
Baghdad.
The Soldiers seized 107 mm rockets, plastic explosives and
fuses inside an abandoned house in the Bayaa community.
Iraqi National Policemen from the 1st Battalion, 5th Brigade, 2nd
NP Division, located a weapons cache May 23
at approximately 2 p.m. while conducting a patrol in the Risalah
neighborhood of southern Baghdad.
The policemen seized rocket-propelled grenades with a launcher,
an RPG booster, hand grenades, AK-47 rifles, and a PKC
machinegun.
"The Iraqi Army and Iraqi National
Police NPs are responsible for a significant amount of cache
finds in the southern Baghdad area,"
said Maj. Dave Olson, spokesman, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th
Infantry Division, Multi-National Division - Baghdad.
"Their actions, with the support of the 1st BCT, 'Raider'
Brigade, provide a safe and secure environment
for the 1.2 million residents of southern Baghdad."
Soldiers from Company A, 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry
Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry
Division,
seized a weapons cache at 2:15 p.m. in the Bayaa community. The
cache consisted of rocket propelled grenades,
approximately 600 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, an AK-47 rifle,
various IED-making materials, and detonation cord and firing
wire.
"The 1st 'Raider' Brigade Soldiers work day in and day out
with their Iraqi counterparts enforcing the Rule of Law
on behalf of the citizens of the Rashid district," said
Olson.

separate events throughout Baghdad

BAGHDAD - Iraqi Security Forces, Sons of Iraq members and
Multi-National Division - Baghdad Soldiers
discovered weapons caches in Baghdad May 26. At
approximately 9:15 a.m., Soldiers serving with
Company E, 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st
Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division
seized a weapons cache in the West Rashid district of
Baghdad. The cache consisted of a pound of homemade
explosives,
five 60 mm mortar rounds, an SPKP 57 mm rocket, two M6 fuses, six
MP 1B point detonation fuses,
two RPG-7B rockets and a C5M 57 mm rocket. At approximately
10:15 a.m., policemen with the 2nd Battalion, 4th Brigade,
1st National Police Division, confiscated nine AK47 assault
rifles while conducting clearing operations
in the New Baghdad district of Baghdad. At approximately
noon, SOI members and Iraqi Army Soldiers
with the 1st Bn., 42nd Bde., 11th IA Div. found five hand
grenades in the Adhamiya district of Baghdad.

BAGHDAD - Multi-National Division - Baghdad Soldiers
"Raiders" discovered a cache and detained two criminals
in the Rashid district
of southern Baghdad May 30-31. Soldiers from Company
A, 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade
Combat Team,
4th Infantry Division detained a known criminal at 5 a.m. May 30
in West Rashid.
At approximately 6:15 a.m. May 30, Soldiers from Company C, 4th
Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment,
attached to the 1st BCT, 4th Inf. Div. discovered a weapons cache
consisting of 17 120 mm mortar rounds
in the Shurta neighborhood.
"Raider Soldiers are outside the wire every day patrolling
the streets to provide a safe and secure environment for the
Iraqi people,"
said Maj. Dave Olson, 1st BCT Spokesman, 4th
Inf. Div. "Coalition forces, along with their Iraqi Security
Forces counterparts,
will continue to bring the criminals to justice so the citizens
may live in a peaceful Rashid district."
