The account on the following
pages of the 22nd Infantry in the Hürtgen Forest is from the
monograph prepared by Major Frederick Kent as part of the
requirements for graduation
from the US Army Advanced Infantry Officers Course of 1947-48.
Frederick Thomas Kent was born
in New York on February 24, 1909. He graduated from Rutgers
University
with Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in
1931. On June 5, 1931 he was commissioned a
2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Infantry Reserve. During the Battle
of the Hürtgen Forest Kent served as the
22nd Infantry Regimental Logistics Officer (S-4) and also as the
Commanding Officer of Service Company
22nd Infantry.
His awards include the Combat
Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster,
Purple Heart
Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.
Frederick T. Kent retired from
the Army as a Colonel on December 31, 1960. He died on June 12,
1991
and is buried at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth,
Kansas.
Capt Don Warner,
Commander of Company A, 1st Battalion 22nd Infantry
Warner started the November attack as a Platoon Leader and ended
it as a Company Commander.
