1st Battalion 22nd Infantry

B Company Soldier Receives Silver Star

Albert Brick

At the Battle of The Rock on June 20, 1970 2nd Platoon of Company B 1st Battalion 22nd Infantry
engaged a larger force of North Vietnamese Army soldiers. At one point in the fight Sergeant
Melvin Rutherford was hit and lay seriously wounded, exposed in the battle area.

Private First Class Albert Brick charged out into enemy fire in an attempt to bring Rutherford
back to safety. Brick was himself seriously wounded in the act, being shot in the face, and had
to be medically evacuated.

Brick spent a year in the hospital recovering from his wounds, with several follow-up surgeries afterward.

Albert Brick was awarded a Silver Star for his actions that day.
