While conducting route clearance southwest of
Baghdad Saturday,
elements of the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment,
2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Infantry Division (part
of 4ID MND - Baghdad),
found a vehicle containing a weapons cache. The cache
consisted of three rocket-propelled grenade rounds, roadside
bomb-making materials
and a cell phone. The 1-22 patrol also
found 12 50-pound bags of ammonium nitrate, a chemical compound
used in roadside bomb-making,
in a house near the vehicle. An Explosive Ordnance
Disposal team was called to the scene and performed a controlled
detonation to eliminate the threats.

Spc. William S. Hayes III, 23, of St. Tammany,
La., died in Baghdad, Iraq, on Feb. 5, of a non-combat related
injury.
Hayes was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry
Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry
Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

MND-B Soldiers find significant weapons cache

BAGHDAD
Multi-National Division Baghdad Soldiers discovered
a weapons cache Friday, adding to a series of caches discovered
in the past week.
While conducting a combat patrol, the Soldiers with 1st
Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team,
4th Infantry Division,
received a tip from an Iraqi citizen about the location of a
possible weapons cache site.
Responding
to the tip, the unit searched the area and uncovered multiple
weapons, munitions and explosives.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team arrived at the site to assess
the situation and conduct a controlled detonation to destroy the
cache.
The controlled detonation exposed a false floor beneath
the original site, which yielded more weapons and munitions upon
further investigation.
EOD conducted a second controlled detonation of the
explosives.
After
both detonations and a complete search of the area, the unit
uncovered 21 120mm mortar rounds, two 160mm mortar rounds,
six 155mm mortar rounds, one shape charge, six 122 mortar rounds,
20 rocket propelled grenades, one mortar base plate,
80 81mm mortar rounds, 50 2.5 rockets, 60 61mm mortar rounds and
other bomb-making materials.

Soldiers
from 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment were
patrolling south of Baghdad when their vehicles were struck by a
roadside bomb
at approximately 8:45 p.m. Sunday. The unit identified
three suspected terrorists fleeing the scene.
The MND-B Soldiers caught and detained the three
individuals. There was no damage to Coalition Force
equipment or personnel.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 15, 2006 Coalition and Iraqi forces killed four terrorists and detained 16 in a series of operations in the past 24 hours, and coalition forces also found several weapons caches yesterday, military officials in Iraq said.
Soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, came under small-arms fire from insurgents south of Baghdad early this morning. A firefight ensued, and one insurgent was killed. Two other suspected terrorists were detained. The patrol also confiscated two AK-47s.
Three more insurgents were killed and 14 others detained in several operations yesterday:

BAGHDAD
While conducting operations in south Baghdad , Soldiers
from 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, killed two
terrorists,
detained two local nationals, discovered three roadside bombs and
uncovered two weapons caches during multiple patrols Friday.
During
another patrol, Soldiers from Co. B, 1st Bn., 22nd Inf. Rgmt.
discovered a second weapons cache consisting of six 155mm
artillery shell casings,
two sniper rifles, blasting caps and multiple bomb-making
materials. While securing the area the Soldiers detained one
suspect in connection with the cache.
