Below are scans of a letter
written by Ira in June of 1899.
Though some of the words are cut off on the right margin,
most of what Ira wrote is easy to understand.
He describes the harshness of
his environment in the Philippines,
the types of engagements he fought with the insurgents,
his amazement of being in a foreign land,
and his thoughts about getting out of the Army.
