LTC MARK S. WOEMPNER

 

LTC Mark S. Woempner was born in Logansport, Indiana on August 27, 1960 to Stanley and Ellen Woempner. He was commissioned as an engineer Lieutenant on May 23, 1980 and served with the 244th En Bn (CBT HVY) as a horizontal and vertical platoon leader, until August 1982. He entered active duty service as an Infantry officer after earning his Baccalaureate Degree from the University of Colorado that same month. His military schooling includes Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Infantry Mortar Platoon Leader Course, Joint Firepower Command Course, and the US Army Command and General Staff College.

During his initial assignments, LTC Woempner served as a rifle and mortar platoon leader, then as Brigade Assistant S-3, while serving with the 24th ID (M). Following his graduation from the Infantry Officer Advanced Course, he served as Battalion Assistant S-3, Battalion S-1, rifle company commander and headquarters company commander while assigned to 1st Battalion 27th Infantry in the 25th ID (L).

Following his tour in Hawaii LTC Woempner attended the Colorado School of Mines, earning a Masters and Ph.D. in Mathematical and Computer Sciences, 1991-1993. As an Operation Research Systems Analyst, he served at the Pentagon as a rapid application developer and network engineer from 1993-1995.

After graduating from Command and General Staff College in 1996, he was assigned to Ft Lewis, Washington. He served as an operations officer for the I Corps G3, then as the Battalion Executive Officer of 5th Battalion 20th Infantry, 1996-1998.

In 1998 he was assigned to White Sands Missle Range, New Mexico, working in the close combat division, brigade and below for the TRADOC Analysis Center. His major contributions included assistant study director for the Joint Contingency Force Advanced Warfighting Experiment from 1998-2000. From January to June 2001, he served as the 4th ID (M) Inspector General at Ft Hood, Texas.

His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (with three Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Expert Infantry Badge, Ranger Tab, parachutist Badge and Air Assault Badge.

LTC Woempner and his wife Carrie have three children, Ryan, Lynn and Megan.
