John L. Daniels was born in Texas on September 12, 1926.

He enlisted in the Army and served as an enlisted man until June 14, 1951.

(Note: the date Daniels originally enlisted is reported as two different dates.
Daniels' name first appears in the Army Register in 1953 and his date of enlistment
is recorded in the Registers of 1953-1955 as January 30, 1946. Starting with the Army Register
of 1956 and onward his date of enlistment is recorded in the Registers as February 23, 1945.)

On June 15, 1951 he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant of Infantry in the U.S. Army Reserve.

On June 5, 1952 he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant of Infantry in the Regular Army with
date of rank back to June 15, 1951.

On October 14, 1952 Daniels was promoted to the temporary rank of 1st Lieutenant (AUS).

Beginning with the Army Register of 1954 he is recorded as having been awarded the Bronze star Medal
with two Oak Leaf Clusters, which, according to his history in the Registers would have been earned in
the Korean War of 1950-53.

On June 15, 1954 he was promoted to the permanent rank of 1st Lieutenant in the Regular Army.

Daniels was promoted to the temporary rank of Captain (AUS) on September 18, 1956.

In 1957 he graduated from the U.S. Army Infantry School Officers Advanced Course.

He was promoted to the permanent rank of Captain in the Regular Army on January 10, 1958.

Daniels received a promotion to the temporary rank of Major (AUS) on July 26, 1961.

He was promoted to the permanent rank of Major in the Regular Army on June 15, 1965
and the temporary rank of Lieutenant Colonel (AUS) on August 3, 1965.

Also in 1965 he graduated from the U.S. Army Command & General Staff College.

LTC John L. Daniels commanded 1/22 Infantry for approximately four months in 1968-1969.
