George Carol Hughes was born in Vance County, North Carolina on December 5, 1920.

He was drafted into the Army on October 6, 1942 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His home of residence was listed
as Henderson, Vance County, North Carolina and his civilian occupation was listed as General farmers.
He had completed four years of High School and was single with no dependents.

He was promoted from Private First Class to Sergeant on June 16, 1944.

Staff Sergeant Hughes died of wounds received in action on September 18, 1944.

serial number is that of Staff Sergeant George C. Hughes who died of wounds
received in action while serving in Company A 22nd Infantry on September 18, 1944.
